Polar bear hunting

In Ittoqqortoormiit (Scoresbysund), Northeast Greenland there’s an annual quota of 30 polar bears. This bear is an adult male - shot at the sea ice close to town. When the bear arrives to town on dog sledge, it is quickly surrounded by the spectators – especially the children of the town. In only 1½ hour the large animal is skinned and the meat is shared between the hunters following to old tradition rules. A large part of the meat, the skin and the skull goes to the hunter that shot the bear. The formatet is digital, RAW 3888 x 2592 and 5616 x 3744 pixels.
